n-butane is produced by monobromination of ethane followed by Wurtz reaction. Calculate volume of ethane in litres at STP to produce 29 g of n-butane if bromination takes place with 80% yield and the Wurtz reaction with 56% yield. The reactions involved are hvi) C2H6 + Br2 hv 125°C → C2H5Br + HBO 125°c ether ii) 2C2H5Br + 2Na → C4H10 + 2NaBr(Wurtz reaction)[jst for reference the ANSWER IS: 50]pls solve in a explaining way

46.14 L

Explanation:

i) 2C₂H₆ + 2Br₂ → 2C₂H₅Br + 2HBr

ii) 2C₂H₅Br + 2Na → C₄H₁₀+ 2NaBr

C₂H₆ : C₂H₅Br : C₄H₁₀ = 2:2:1

Number of moles of butane = 29/58 = 0.5

Moles of C₂H₆ required = 2 × (29/58) × (100/56) × (100/80)

                                         =  2 × 0.5 × 1.78 × 1.16

                                         = 2.06 moles

At STP volume of C₂H₆ = 22.4 × 2

                                        = 46.14 L
