What is SI unit of speed? Name a few other units of speed.

Answer:

Speed has the dimensions of distance divided by time. The SI unit of speed is the metre per second (m/s), but the most common unit of speed in everyday usage is the kilometre per hour (km/h) or, in the US and the UK, miles per hour (mph). For air and marine travel the knot is commonly used.

SI unit of speed is m/s or [tex]\frac{m}{s}[/tex].Other units of speed is km/h or [tex]\frac{km}{h}[/tex].

Speed can be defined as distance travelled  by an object or a body per unit time.

  • Speed can be calculated by :
  • speed(s) = distance(d)/time(t).

As we know-

  • Distance is measured in meters(m) or kilometers(km).
  • Time is measured in seconds(s) or hours(h).
  • SI unit of speed is given in terms of basic units of distance and time.
  • While calculating speed we should be careful that if distance is given in meters, then time should also be in seconds not hours. If it is given in hours we should first convert it into seconds .
  • SI stands for International System Of Units used universally as a standard for measurement.
