Most of the established democracies of the world face the challenges but they different from country to country. The three main challenges of democracy are:

• Foundational challenge

• Challenge of expansion

• Deepening of democracy

Other challenges are:

1) Poverty, health care, low literacy rate, over population, unemployment are prevalent in most parts of India, hampering national progress.

The various challenges to Indian democracy are stated below:

• Literary rate: Since the country's independence, illiteracy has been a fundamental barrier to India's democracy. It has been a difficulty since both a nation's education level and socioeconomic growth play a critical part in attaining success in a democracy.
• Poverty: Poverty is recognized as one of the most significant obstacles to democracy's proper functioning. Since the British colonial reign, India has inherited a state of poverty. Poverty still occurs in India for a variety of causes, including unemployment and underemployment.
• gender equality: Even though gender equality is a fundamental foundation of democracy in India, gender discrimination persists at every turn. Discrimination against women is still a reality in today's world. One example is the abortion of a girl child, which has resulted in a decrease in the female child ratio.
• Communalism: Communalism is an ideology that asserts that society is split into religious communities with differing interests and, at times, even hostility against one another. Communalism is a failure for Indian democracy since it is anti-secular.
• Corruption: Corruption is a big concern in India since it has its foundations in every sector whether it agriculture, healthcare, academia, ownership, commerce, trade, military force. It may be found at all levels of government, administration, and business.
