13. Case Study - 1 In the picture given below, one can see given below, one can see a rectangular in-ground swimming pool installed by a family in their backyard. There is a concrete sidewalk around the pool of width x m. The outside edges of the sidewalk measure 7 m and 12 m. The area of the pool is 36 sq. m. (a) Based on the information given above, form a quadratic equation in terms of x. (b) Find the width of the sidewalk around the pool.

Step-by-step explanation:

please gibe the solution anybody

Concept Introduction:-

It is a type of branch where maths are deals with their own properties and also manipulation of numbers.

Given:-

We have been given a case study.

To Find:-

We have to find width.

Solution:-

According to the problem

Width of sidewalk is x m Inner length of pool is (12- 2x) m

Inner beadth of pool (7-2x) m

Area of pool is 36 sq. m

Area of pool =length × breadth

36= (12-2x) ×(7-2x)

36 = 84 - 24x -14x +4x^2

36= 84 -38x +4x^2

4x^2 -38x +48 = 0

2x^2 -19x + 24 = 0

is the required quadratic equation

(ii) solution As we solve the above equation we will find the width of the sidewalk 2(2x^2 - 19x +24) = 0

2x^2 -19- + 24 = 0

2x^2 - 16x -3x +24 = 0

2x(x-8) -3(x-8) =0

(2x-3)(x-8) = 0 X = 3/2 or 8

Width of sidewalk = 8m is not possible

Hence, width of sidewalk is 3/2

Final Answer:-

The final answer is 3/2
