average =6 , n =37
-11×2 = -22, n1 = 37+11 =48
-22/48 = -11/24
new average = 6-11/24 = 5.54 years

4Given : In a class average age of 37 boys is 6. 11 boys each of age 4 years are added.
To find : The new average.
Solution :
We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process. (our goal is to calculate the new average)
Now,
Average age of 37 boys = 6 years
Sum of ages of 37 boys = Average of 37 boys × 37 = 6 × 37 = 222 years
Now, 11 boys each of age 4 years are added.
Sum of ages of 11 new boys = Age of each boy × Number of boys = 4 × 11 = 44 years
Now, the total number of boys = Initial number of boys + Number of newly added boys = 37 + 11 = 48
Sum of the ages of the 48 boys :
= Sum of ages of 37 boys + Sum of ages of 11 boys
= 222 + 44
= 266 years
Average age of 48 boys
= Sum of the ages of the 48 boys ÷ 48
= 266 ÷ 48
= [tex] 5\frac{13}{24} [/tex] years
(This will be considered as the new average.)
Hence, the new average is 5¹³/₂₄ years.
