2Given,
4 bulbs of 100 watts lighted for 5 hours daily.
2 fans of 50 watts are used for 10 hours daily.
1 refrigerator of 1 kW is used for 1 hour daily.
To find,
The total energy consumed in the month of January and its cost at the rate of ₹ 3.60 per kWh.
Solution,
we know that,
Energy = Power × Time
energy consumed by the bulbs in a day = 0.1 × 4 × 5 = 2 kWh
energy consumed by the fans in a day = 0.5 × 2 × 10 = 1 kWh
energy consumed by the refrigerator in a day = 1/2 × 1×1 = 0.5 kWh
∴ total energy consumed in a day = 3.5 kWh
Number of days in January = 31
∴ Total power consumed in January = 3.5 × 31 kWh = 108.5 kWh
∴ Total cost = ₹ 108.5 × 3.6 = ₹ 390.6
