Hemorrhagic disease of new born is mainly caused due to deficiency of Vitamin K.
Due to deficiency in Vitamin K the blood is not clotted. Therefore the bleeding can not stop if started. This is a serious disease for a new born baby.

The babies who are affected by this disesase faces several problems. However there are some symptoms of this disease. They are- 1. blood in urine, 2. we can observe blood at baby's bowel movements, 3. bleeding from mucous membrane, 4. bleeding after circumsicion, 5.bleeding from vaccination sites
Hemorrhagic can be classified into three types- Early stage, classical and Late.
Early stage is considered to be within 24 hours of birth of the baby.
Classical stage is considered from 2nd day of birth to 7th day, almost one week.
Late stage is from 8th day of birth to 6-12 moinths.
It is found to be happened mostly in male infants, breastfed infants, spontaneous vaginal delivery infants.
Vitamin K is a fat soluble drug which is found in two forms- Vitamin K1 and Vitamin K2.
If this disease is found then a brief history is taken into account for the proper diagonosis.
Such as if any anti-convulsant drug , anti tuberculant drugs are taken in pregnancy.
In case of life threatening bleeding immediate blood transfusion is given with fresh frozen plasma to reduce bleeding.
Treatment of this disease mainly focused on consumption of vitamin K to the inmant.
For early and classical stage oral trteatment of vitamin K is needed.
But for late stage oral treatment of vitamin K is not effective, 0.5-1` mg dose is given.

There are side effects of taking vitamin K1. Therefore vitamin K3 is taken first which is water soluble.
