Answers 2

Various rivers in India rise from the Himalayas or the Himalayan bases. These old mountains are the source of water in various parts of the country. But, not all rivers originate from the Himalayas. There are rivers originating from the Western and Eastern Ghats as well.

From the list of rivers given, that is River Ganga, River Indus, River Krishna, River Bramhaputra, the one river that does not originate from the Himalayas is River Krishna. This river originates from the Western Ghats in Maharastra.

River Krishna is not a Himalayan River.

  • The Himalayan rivers originate from the glaciers in the Himalayas at the North and are formed of the three major rivers including the Ganga, Brahmaputra, and Indus.
  • These rivers originate at the top and get further distributed into various streams as they move across the regions.
  • The Krishna river originates in Mahabaleshwar, western ghats and forms a part of the peninsular system of rivers.
