"(ii) move downwards" is answer hope you like it

(ii) move downwards

Explanation:

  • When we breathe, our diaphragm contracts.
  • On the contraction of the diaphragm, it moves downwards.
  • This happens because there is space in our chest cavity that increases when the lungs expand.
  • There are intercostal muscles between our ribs which act like supporters  to the chest cavity when it expands.
  • Hence, during exhalation, the ribs move downwards.
