Majority in Government of India ( popularly termed as central government) does not depend directly on number of votes but it depends on number of seats won in Lower house of parliament i.e. Loksabha.
As prescribed by constitution of India, maximum strength of Loksabha can be 552 out of which 530 seats can be from state and 20 seats can be from Union Territories and two seats can be nominated ffor Anglo Indian Community by President of India in case he thinks the community has not been give appropriate representation in power.
In the current scenario, Loksabha consists of 545 seats including anglo Indian representatives. Hence to have majority in Loksabha, any political party or alliance of political parties should have more than half seats i.e. atleast 273 seats.
Hence to summaries , minimum 273 seats in Loksabha are required to have majority in Government of India. The margin of victory at individual constituency doesn’t matter and vote share also doesn’t matter.
