THE TERM PANCHAYATI RAJ IS :
* A form of government in the rural areas, where the village is responsible for its activities. It is a system where instead of municipalities that work in urban areas Panchayats rule.
THE MAIN FUNCTIONS OF THE BLOCK SAMITIS ARE:
* Supervises the function of the Gram Panchayat.
* It is a link between the Gram Panchayat and the Zila Parishad.
* Aids in the construction of roads and bridges between villages.
* Assists in the education of the villagers.
* Aids in the construction of hospitals and dispensaries.
THE COMPOSITION OF THE ZILA PARISHAD
The composition of Zila Parishad is that 10 to 25 members are directly elected by the villagers residing in the area. Approximately 50,000 voters elect a particular representative.
THE THREE LEVELS OF GOVERNANCE IN THE DISTRICT ARE:
1. Gram Panchayat- at the village level
2. Panchayat Samiti- at the block level
3. Zila Parishad -at the district level
SARPANCH is the head of the Gram Sabha
