A distribution (or graph of data sets) can be normal, skewed, or uniform. A distribution is normal if it's symmetrical, the peak occurs at the center of the curve and the two sides (left and right) are reflections of each other. Distributions are skewed or asymmetrical when the left and right parts of the graph are not mirroring images. Such distribution can be skewed on the left (or negatively skewed) or skewed on the right (positively skewed).
The distribution is negatively skewed if the data values are clustered on the right side of the curve causing it to have a peak on the right but a flatter tail on the left side as shown in the diagram below. This happens when the data set has more frequently occurring higher values than lower values. A possible data set could be the set of scores in a very easy math exam. Expectedly, if the test is so easy, a lot of students would score high. Hence, the peak of the data would be on the right while the tail is on the left.
