Antonio is a Christian and Shylock is a jew. As we all know that jews are non believers of christ. So they tend to have a long term conflict. In a christian dominated state, it is heroic to harass a jew. So Antonio becomes the hero and Shylock the villain. This was the religious conflict.

Economic-wise, both were pretty famous money lenders. But because Antonio was a Christian and it was a sin for them to take interests, people admired Antonio. On the other hand, Shylock used to charge a lot of interest for money lending. Hence, people dislicked him.
