Answer:
Last week my school celebrated Grandparents Day with great joy and pomp. It was the day to highlight and honour the importance of grandparents in shaping our life and personality. Our school conducted inter-house drama competition in which four plays were enacted by us.
As the Head Boy of the school, I commenced the event with the recital of a prayer song. My song was followed by a welcome note by our newly appointed Principal, Mrs Roxana. In her speech, she highlighted and appreciated the importance of grandparents in our upbringing. She said that older people are rich in experience and full of affection and care for their grandchildren.
This was followed by a floral tribute to the judges of the play. Mrs Heera Tata and Mr Kamal, senior professors of a local dramatics school were invited as the chief guest to grace the occasion.
Later, the students of three houses from each IXth and Xth class presented their respective plays before the judges and grandparents. Each play had different subject, genre and language. Green house presented a Marathi drama named `Aple Ajoba-Ajji’. It was an emotional play. Red house came forward with a Hindi play titled Hamare Pyara dada-dadi’. It was a play for those who disobeyed their grandparents and later realises their mistake. A hilarious English play, ‘If we were grandparents’ was enacted by Yellow house, it touched the subject of generation gap in a humorous way.
After the plays, we rendered a song as a tribute to the grandparents. The grandparents thoroughly enjoyed all the plays and encouraged us for our efforts.
The event was concluded with a speech by chief guest, Mrs Tata. She appreciated the theme of the event and variety in plays. According to her, our plays brought forward the awareness and intelligence of students about different issues in society. Later, prizes for the best play and acting were distributed. My Yellow house won the award for the best play. Actors from each house felt encouraged by winning prizes for their best acting performances. However, our prizes were sponsored by a well-known publishing house.
Overall, it was a great day. The mood of all was filled with fun, affection, happiness and joy. After the event ended, all the students, parents and grandparents returned to their homes with happy memories.
