• तुलसीदास के समय के तत्कालीन समाज में लोगों की आर्थिक दशा बेहद दयनीय थी। उस समय किसानों को कृषि योग्य पर्याप्त भूमि नहीं मिल पाती थी और व्यापारी के लिए व्यापार करने के उचित अवसर नहीं थे। लोग केवल यही सोचते रहते थे कि क्या किया जाए। वह केवल इसी फेर में रहते कि कब और कैसे प्राप्त किया जाए।
• तुलसीदास के समय तत्कालीन समाज में बेरोजगारी की स्थिति बहुत भयंकर थी।लोगों के ऊपर के हमेशा ऋण बकाया रहता था और लोग ऋण लेकर जीवन यापन करने के लिए विवश थे। जब ऋण का भार अधिक हो जाता तो ऐसे लोग ऋण चुका ना पाने की स्थिति में आत्महत्या तक कर लेते थे। लोगों में सही-गलत, बड़े-छोटे की पहचान करने की सामर्थ्य नही थी। उन्हें केवल अपनी भूख मिटाने से मतलब था। इसी कारण वह कर्म करने की प्रवृत्ति को नहीं देते बल्कि इसके तुरंत मिलने वाले फल की ओर अधिक ध्यान देते।
