Concept: Shelford's Law of Tolerance and homeostasis.
To find: Difference between law of tolerance and homeostasis.
Answer:
•Law of tolerance stats that for an organism to survive and function in a particular habitat, it must be within it's tolerance for all environmental factors.
•It is about how well an organism functions between the upper and lower limits of different environmental conditions.
•Example: If a
nutrient was absent in the soil, the plant failed to grow or died.
If the nutrient was present in a minimal amount, growth was minimal.
•Hence,
organisms live within a range of too much and too little, called the limits of tolerance.
Whereas,
•Homeostasis is the capacity of animals to maintain a constant internal environment.
• Two environmental factors that terrestrial animals need to regulate homeostasis are:
Temperature and Water.
• Depending on how animals maintain homeostasis is, they are either: Poikilotherms or Homeotherms.
